KILMORE – An important municipal, agricultural and mining township, 39.5 miles N of Melbourne, with telegraph station, post and money order office and savings bank, situated in hollow nook in range. Excellent public and private buildings, including hospital, court-house, mechanics’ institute and free library (with nearly 3000 volumes), oddfellows’ and masonic halls, hotels, State and private schools, six churches, butter factory, branches of two banks and agencies of twelve
insurance companies. Climate is one of the healthiest. The soil is of volcanic origin, exceedingly fertile and well adapted for grazing and agricultural purposes, producing heavy wheat crops.


Fortnightly markets of cattle, horses and dairy produce are held. Two newspapers are published.
Population of district 2130 – 1100 residing in in township.
