We have received new information on the bonnet pictured in the latest edition of “Kilmore Connections”, which has forced us to reconsider its ultimate provenance. This information was provided by Ron Robson.
The bonnet was donated by Ron Robson via Glenice Crome. Ron’s grandfather was a pilot in WW2. He met his wife, Ron’s grandmother, in Egypt, and returned to Australia with her. She owned the bonnet and brought it here at the time.
The bonnet thus arrived in Australia after the Second World War. Its ultimate origins are uncertain. It may have originally come from Europe and been passed down in Ron’s grandmother’s family. It is even possible that it was made in Egypt as a copy of European fashions.
If any of our members possess similar items it might be interesting to make a comparison.
