Brass Plaques Arrived

We have received the brass plaques destined for Kilmore Cemetery. These commemorate the first three burials, which currently have no memorials, and whose exact location in the cemetery remains unknown. We also thank Dean Wheeler, descendant of John Wheeler, for his contribution to this project.

  1. Congratulations on this project. What are the names of the people being commemorated?

    1. The three people commemorated are the first three to be buried in the cemetery, and they are, in order:
      John Wheeler
      Thomas Seale
      William Hawkins

The first two were both publicans, and the last, William, was only two months old when he died.

  2. I am Jane Copeland’s great great great granddaughter who was buried there in 1850 her husband Peter 1860 . I was wondering if one of these brass plaques commemorate her? If not how wide I go about sponsoring a project.

    Thanks

    1. Jane is not the subject of one of the current plaques, but we found her life story very interesting, and she was the subject of an article in a recent edition of our newsletter. It might be useful to post that article here, if we have one of her descendants visiting the site.

    2. The article on Jane is now up on the web site. If you have any additional information we would be happy to hear it.
